Finding and Checking out Visual Materials

Zondervan Library has a few thousand videos in VHS format in its collections, as well as over a thousand DVDs.

Nonfiction videos, which are classified in the Dewey Decimal system (the same as the books), and Fiction videos are shelved on the Main Level of the Library behind the Periodicals section. All DVDs are shelved in a separate area on the Main Level to the far right as you walk into the Library. If you need help, ask where they are located at the Checkout Desk.

Aside from browsing the shelves for the right film, you can also search the Online Catalog. When searching for videos or DVDs in the Online Catalog:

  • Go to the Advanced Search screen of the Online Catalog.
  • Type in a keyword or two from the title of the film into the Search box.
  • Choose "Visual Materials" from the Limit by Format drop-down menu near the bottom left of the search screen. This will narrow your search to the kind of material you want. Click the Search button.
  • Once you identify the item you want from the list of results, you can see if the item is on the shelf by paying attention to the "Owned / Loaned" link for that film. The first number is how many tapes or DVDs we have, the second number is how many are currently check out, and thus not on the shelf for you to find. You can click on the "Check for Copies" link to determine when the item is due back at the Library.

If you have any other questions, Ask-A-Librarian--either at the Information Desk inside the front doors of the Library, or find us via IM, email, or by phone.
