Careers

Like many liberal arts majors, political science can be an excellent foundation for a variety of careers. The liberal arts curriculum offers students the opportunity to acquire the critical thinking and communication skills important to anyone who aspires to management or community leadership.

A major in political science is commonly associated with:

  • Preparation for law school
  • A career in government

However, a student of political science learns concepts like how power is exercised and controlled, the process of making and administering policies, how differences are expressed and resolved, and how law and public policy interact with different segments of society. Such knowledge is relevant in a variety of vocational settings.

During the 1990s our graduates have flourished in:

  • Business
  • Journalism
  • Higher education
  • Not-for-profits
  • Mission work

"Majoring in political science at Taylor teaches you how to think, write and talk about problems that lack easy answers. Skills like these you'll use whatever you do. And if you become a lawyer, you'll be paid to use these skills every day."
