Oil Well Winch System
Over the past couple of years Taylor University students have been developing an oil well winch system. This system will provide a means to send cameras and data equipment down 1000-1500 ft into oil wells to do ecological and commercial research. The winch system will allow companies and independent well owners to learn where the oil is located and how much can be drilled. Currently there are costly versions of this winch system on the market for commercial use. However TU students such as Ted Mitchell are working on this project to try to build a cheaper alternative. The sensor package for the unit has already been created. As of now, the designs for the winch system have been created. Testing of the new winch system will begin shortly. If TU students can produce a working model of this oil well winch system, it will eventually be sold for commercial uses.- Experience Taylor
