Bienvenue! ¡Bienvenido!

Welcome to Taylor University's Modern Languages department!

Our mission:

The Department of Modern Languages promotes life-long learning by helping individuals to develop highly proficient communication skills and adept social and literary understanding of one or more modern foreign languages and cultures. Our students experience cross-cultural situations, both in domestic and overseas settings, where they will have meaningful interaction with others. As students develop awareness of foreign language and culture, they will increase awareness of their own language and culture.

Words from the Chair:

Modern Languages at Taylor is a busy department. We serve a campus-wide community in a variety of ways. But the main thing we do is the most obvious: we teach classes. Students in the basic grammar classes will receive strong instruction that stresses the basic components of language learning: listening, speaking, writing, and general grammatical competence. Our upper-level courses are comprehensive and challenging. Language majors are not officially required to study abroad, but almost all do.

Are you a prospective student? We are looking for enthusiastic language students to join an already-strong group of about 35 in language majors and a number of students who are pursuing language minors. We are looking for students who want to be a part of what we are doing in our department, but more than that we want students who will integrate their language studies into the larger communities: the Taylor community and beyond. Ultimately, our community is Christ's: we are looking for students who want to study languages in a Kingdom Work context.

Are you interested in the integration of faith and foreign language study? As you browse our departmental website, please consider the benefits of the Taylor University.
