Taylor Math Team

Taylor students have consistently done well in several local and national math contests.  "Pizza and Problem-Solving" sessions as well as our courses help prepare our students for competition.

Congratulations to senior Jeremy Erickson and juniors Matthew Russell and Joseph Seaborn for scoring 63 points to take first place in the 44th annual Indiana Collegiate Mathematics Competition.

Indiana Collegiate Mathematics Competition Teams compete from Indiana colleges and universities including Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Ball State University, Indiana University, Butler University, Wabash College, IUPUI, IPFW, Indiana Wesleyan University, and many others.

2009  1st place out of 39 teams.
2008  3rd place out of 29 teams.
2007  3rd place (tie).  Taylor had 5 teams.
2004  2nd place, 5th place, and 7th place teams.
2002  3rd place.
2001  2nd place.

Michigan Autumn Take-Home Challenge

2007  2nd place out of 53 teams.
2006  1st place (3-way tie) out of 63 teams from 23 institutions.
2005  3rd place.
2004  Two teams in the top ten.

William Lowell Putnam Competition  This very prestigious and challenging exam affords participants 6 hours to tackle 12 problems.

2008  7 participants.  Team rank: 70 out of 405.  One student placed 372nd out of 3627.
2007  5 participants.  Team rank: 92 out of 413.
2006  5 participants.  Team rank: 77 out of 402.
2005  4 students above the median.  One student in top 500 out of 3545.

Virginia Tech Regional Mathematics Competition  Since 1979, the VTRMC is sponsored each fall by the Mathematics Department at Virginia Tech. 398 students from 74 schools participated in 2008. The exam afforded 2.5 hours to tackle 7 challenging math problems.

2008  3 students placed in the top quartile, including two in the top 12%.
