We Believe
God reveals himself to humanity in his role as Creator (Genesis 1:1); he materialized his identity in Christ the Word (John 1:1); he continues his work in us through the Spirit as Teacher (John 14:23). Because we are created in the image of God, we are able to participate in the being of God by engaging in a teaching dialectic that explores the beauty, creativity, and the power of the written word.
Therefore
We invite students to join us in developing aesthetic appreciation, valuing and evaluating the process of critical inquiry, engaging in the process of imaginative refinement, and establishing a pattern of interaction with the written word that expresses the life of the mind.
Students in the English department benefit from small classes and one-on-one interaction with qualified professors. Due to the small student/teacher ratio, students are known individually and are actively involved in learning.
Unique aspects of Taylor University's English department include computer-aided writing which help freshmen master word processing, editing, online indexes and the proper use of Internet resources. The department aggressively integrates computer technology into the course formats with Web pages, dialogues and Internet searches.
Our students have opportunities to:
- attend undergraduate conferences
- present papers at conferences
- tutor in the Writing Center
- work on the staff of Parnassus, the English department's annual literary magazine
- submit prose, poetry or artwork to Parnassus for publication
