Media Communication

The media communication program develops extraordinary communicators who are marked by professional excellence, their passion for serving Christ and their desire to use media for cultural transformation. When we say "media," we mean newspapers, magazines, radio, television, film, advertising, public relations, the Internet and the music industry. Our program is intentionally broad to maximize your flexibility in the job market. We're also serious about depth, allowing you to specialize in an area you're passionate about.

Pick a concentration in:

Media Production

  • You love to tell significant stories using sight and sound. You can see yourself as a producer, director, editor or writer for audio and video productions, maybe in a corporate, nonprofit or ministry setting. You want to create excellent and redemptive stories, just not necessarily in Hollywood.

Media Production/Film

  • You love the DVD bonus features at least as much as the films. You want to tell significant stories using sight and sound, and you think God's calling involves Hollywood or another aspect of the entertainment industry. Media production students who add a life-changing semester at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center are our hardcore production/film majors.

Media Production/Audio

  • You love all kinds of media production, but audio's your passion. If you could end up serving God in the music industry or doing live sound somewhere, you'd be in heaven. Do the production concentration but then add an audio emphasis by spending an amazing semester at the Contemporary Music Center at Martha's Vineyard specializing in audio recording, engineering, and live sound and lighting.

Writing

  • You've written for your school paper or been blogging since blogging began. You'd love to be a storyteller in print, whether it's on the web, in a screenplay, in a magazine, on a TV ad or a video script. You'll craft messages with insight, Christian ethics and compassion. This is way more than a news journalism program. You'll be versatile in writing for print, broadcast, web, audio/radio and film.

Public Relations

  • You're a writer, an organizer/event planner, you're good with people and good on your feet. Public relations is a field poised to grow faster than average for the next decade. You'll be prepared to deliver strategic communication campaigns in a manner that is truthful and responsible, working in corporate, agency, nonprofit and ministry settings. In contrast to some theory-only P.R. programs, you'll get experience with digital media tools and real clients.

Web

  • You and your computer are inseparable. You were making web pages at age ten and always more curious than the next person about how the web works. You can see yourself making the web central to your career, consulting with clients, managing web teams, designing amazing sites and creating content for online distribution. Maybe you've got a great idea for a web-based company. Your entrepreneurial gifts will be embraced in this concentration.
