The Provost serves as the chief academic, program and planning officer of the university and chief operating officer of the Upland campus. Reporting to the President, this position has overall responsibility for administering the institution's undergraduate and graduate-level educational programs, policies and personnel, and assumes CEO responsibilities in the absence of the President. The President may delegate authority to the Provost to administer a variety of routine University activities as well as unique assignments of a special nature.

Directly reporting to the provost are the dean of the School of Humanities, Arts and Biblical Studies; the dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences; the dean of the School of Social Sciences, Education and Business; vice provost, dean of international studies; dean of faculty development; university librarian, director of assessment and quality improvement, director of sponsored programs, and administrative assistant to the provost.
